THE FINAL BELLUARD?
Aged just 55, Dominique Belluard sadly took his own life in 2021. He was a pioneering, well-respected winemaker in the alpine Savoie region of France and his tragic passing shocked and saddened the wine community.
This wine from the 2020 vintage was passed onto his friend Jean-Francois Ganevat (the Jura legend) to finish the vinification so the domain could release, possibly as the final Belluard wine…it’s not quite clear of the future for the domain.
The grape is the regionally grown Gringet, usually only reserved for sparkling wines and this is something of which Bellaurd is praised for changing. He is also credited with pushing forward the investigation into the grape’s history, which was thought to belong to the Savagnin family tree, but is in fact totally unique and only grown here in the Savoie region, of which Belluard was the master of its expression and thus, why he gained such respect around the globe.
Notes of apricot, white flowers, pears & salt alongside a vibrant acidity keeping it super fresh.
Will age gracefully too..
